I like this sign. The typeface used (mostly Franklin Gothic, I think), the colors, the slightly worn look, the three-over-three name, the design of the sign. It's just nice.
I've always liked this sign, too. It's not any particular typeface, but a common kind of American gothic style that you see on old signs a lot. It's the sort of thing that inspired Gotham and my Proxima Nova.
To me at first glance, the weight and feel is Futura-like. And then looking at the "R" I start thinking maybe it's Franklin Gothic. But I think Franklin has more thicks and thins.
But, of course you're right, Mark. It's just some really fine sign lettering.
