Just to set the record straight.

David, did you hear about the derivation of the term maverick? It was on NPR, I think on Saturday morning.

It was the last name of a Texas rancher who refused to brand his cattle -- he said because he didn't want to hurt them, his neighbors said because he wanted to be able to claim any unbranded cattle as his own.

And so it goes.

I didn't know that Texas rancher story. Sounds like a sneaky guy. Didn't want to hurt the cattle? Yeah, right.

Man, there are a lot of stories about Texas ranchers. Cattle ranchers vs. sheep ranchers. Big ranchers vs. little ranchers. Barbed wire fences vs. open range. Ranchers vs. town folk. Vampires vs. ranchers. Well, maybe not that last one.
