Jess Smart Smiley, in the comments, wondered what size these drawings are. Except for the first one, each face is done in a single page of a 3.5 by 6.0-inch book using a Faber-Castell TG1-S pen with a 0.40 tip, the ink is Rapidograph Universal black India ink. These are not life drawings -- the original pictures are from magazines and newspapers.

Guy in the newspaper. Trust me -- it doesn't look like him at all.

Gonna try to draw and post a face every day for a while. I need the practice. This is supposed to be Kate Winslet. (Told you I needed the practice.)

It all comes back to Homestar Runner

Two of my recent posts have been linked -- in the comments -- to Homestar Runner characters. Reason enough for another blog post.

If you haven't been to and watched Strong Bad's e-mails, I highly recommend them.

Homestar Runner Images taken from the Homestar Runner wiki (who knew?): Lawrence Yang's Pepsi logo taken from Lawrence's blog.

I get all my celebrity news from the side of delivery trucks

Mary Lou Retton (formerly famous Olympics gymnast) had hip replacement surgery? I didn't know! Now I do.

I've been whining, er, complaining, um, commenting on "neutral quote" or "hash mark" abuse for a long time. One of the closer to home examples is a grocery store in my neighborhood. They went upscale in the 1990s and changed their logo to all caps. Sorta classy. Except for the neutral apostrophe.

But, in an amazing development, they recently updated the logo on their paper bags. The new logo features a real apostrophe (and a sharper display version of Times Roman). Score one for the typography snobs!
Now, I'm hoping they will update the store's signage.
