Face-a-day

My inability to get a likeness is a drawing style! Really! And really, being able to capture a likeness -- it's a bit overrated, don't you think?

If you were going for photo-realism I'd drop your blog like that!

Ha!

I would be a photorealist if I could. But I can't so I won't.

Actually, I think the one on the right looks like him.

These remind me somewhat of Barry Blitt.

Ok, I see two drawings each day, one
looks like you do the right hand, the
other the left hand?
One the right brain, the other the left brain? Or is one the frontal lobe the
other the spinal cord?
One the left eye, other the right? one eye closed, two eyes open? One with an opposable thumb the other with a friendly thumb?

Mark -- Thanks! Barry Blitt? Oh, yeah. Also maybe a little Alan E. Cober. Both those guys draw using the chicken-scratch technique of shading. It's difficult for me to stick with one cross-hatch style.

Anon -- Left hand and right hand? Nope, right only.

I do two drawings 'cause then I get a second chance at each face.

The reason for the differences between drawings?

I start each of the two drawings at a different place on the face. Left eye on one, right eye on another. Right eye/ mouth. Nose/eye. Like that.

I'm trying to approach the face from two different directions -- to maybe see the face in a different way each time.

Sometimes I try to cut back on the shading altogether (like today's second drawing). With shading I can kinda fudge my way around. The fewer lines you use the better the lines have to be placed.
